What is NDIS?

The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) is an Australian Government program that provides funding and support for people with permanent disabilities. It helps you get the care, services, and equipment you need to live more independently and reach your personal goals.

This support can include things like help at home, getting out into the community, therapy sessions, or assistive equipment that makes everyday life easier.

How Do I Apply?

Simple Step By Step Guide on Applying for NDIS
  1. Check Eligibility

Make sure you meet the age, residency, and disability requirements. You must be under 65, an Australian citizen or permanent resident, and have a permanent and significant disability. See more

  2. Get Supporting Information

Collect medical or specialist reports that explain your disability and how it affects your daily life.

  3. Submit an Access Request

Fill out the Access Request Form, it is available for download here under the heading "Applying to the NDIS". You can fill this form out and send it with your supporting information in the following formats:
    - Email to enquiries@ndis.gov.au
    - Mailed to PO Box 700, Canberra, ACT 2601
You can also ring the NDIA on 1800 800 110 and ask for an NDIS Access Request Form to be emailed or mailed out to you. You can also visit an NDIS Office in person and ask for an Access Request Form. You can find your local office here.
Your Local Area Coordinator (LAC) can help you complete and submit the Access Request Form.

  4. Access Decision

The NDIA will review your Access Request and decide on whether you are eligible. If you are, you will be contacted, and a Planning Meeting will be arranged.

  5. Planning Meeting
Once your Access Request has been approved, you'll receive a time and date to meet with an NDIS Planner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC) to discuss and build your personalised NDIS plan based on your needs and goals. This meeting will help shape your plan.

There are three types of support budgets within an NDIS plan, they are:

    Core Supports Budget
Core Supports help you with everyday tasks, things related to your disability, and reaching your goals. This part of your NDIS funding is the most flexible. In most cases, you can use it across four different support areas. However, sometimes there are limits, like with transport funding, which may only be used in specific ways.

    Capacity Building Supports Budget
Capacity Building Supports help you become more independent and develop new skills so you can work towards your goals. This part of your budget is not flexible. You can only use the funding for the specific supports listed in this category.

    Capital Supports Budget
Capital Supports are for bigger, one-off items like equipment, assistive technology, or changes to your home or car. This funding is only for those specific items or services and can’t be used for anything else. There are two types of Capital Supports: Assistive Technology and Home Modifications.

  6. Start Using Your Plan
Once your plan is approved, you can choose your service providers and begin receiving supports. Call us today so we can help you get started!

  7. Review
Your NDIS plan is reviewed every year, or earlier if your situation changes. This helps make sure your funding still suits your needs. During the review, you can talk about any new goals or supports you may need, and update your plan if needed. You will need to provide assessments and/or reports to support the need for changes in your plan. When recieving your NDIS plan, there will be a start date, and an end date.
